New to Teri Galleries - Debra Lanning

Throughout her life, images whether on paper, canvas, or wood, have been modes of Debra Lanning’s self expression. Her paintings convey a sense of nature through abstractions. Lanning’s strong sense of color creates an abstract landscape that is contemporary and inspirational.

Debra received her Associate of Liberal Art from Grand Rapids Community College. She went on to attain a Bachelor of Fine Art from Grand Valley State University. During her time at GVSU she was awarded a scholarship to attend Oxbow, Chicago Art Institute’s summer camp. Once she completed her studies at the university she began painting and participating in multiple solo and group exhibitions. Her work can be found in many notable collections such as Greektown Hotel & Casino in Detroit, The Melting Pot in Ann Arbor, Westin Hotel in Tampa, and MEI Hotel in North Miami.

Her love of the water has strongly influenced her work. Water is constantly moving, rolling and bubbling. There is a natural repetition which occurs within the sapphire waters of the earth’s lakes and oceans. This last year has been an inspiring adventure, to capture nature. Losing sight of land, sailing off into the horizon is quite an experience, then coming across to the other side and seeing land appear. Being out on the water where you are able to sit and watch the dawn break, then seeing the vibrant colors shift with the day and end with an explosion of color. It’s just amazing to watch all the light bounce around, reflect and twist. After an adventure it is a pleasure to return to the studio to revisit the horizon, express the experience and create art.

New Originals by James Coleman!

James Coleman - a name synonymous with sweeping skies, tropical rain forests, rich deep woods and silent deserts. The images created by this talented man continue to delight all that view them.

James Coleman was born in Hollywood, California in 1949. As a youth, his creative abilities seemed to dominate his world. Though he lacked the athletic skills of his young friends, he more than made up for it with imagination and ingenuity. As a young man, his interest in filmmaking and fine art would mark the beginning of a long, successful career in animated films. Coleman began his career with Walt Disney Studios in the summer of 1969, when his mother, who had been working as a secretary with Disney since the Hyperion days, got him a job in the studio’s mailroom. His big break came when he entered one of his paintings in the studio art show. Several of the Disney artists viewing his work, saw his potential and realized he had an untapped ability and encouraged him to go into animation background painting.

The contribution made by Coleman to the world of art over some thirty years, both in film and fine art, makes him one of the most collected artists in contemporary art. His work is represented by some of the most prominent and respected galleries in North America, the Orient and the Hawaiian Islands.

RC Davis - A Louisiana Artist

"The Spirit of New Orleans"
Original on Canvas
40 x 80

Richard Christopher (R. C.) Davis
is one of the best-known artists in the Gulf Coast area. Born October 19, 1950 in a rural area outside Amite, Louisiana, he lived the stereotypical life of a farm boy. His love of the natural and farm landscape are outgrowths of his childhood that continue to influence his art today.

As he grew older Chris began studying the lives and painting techniques of a wide range of artist. He taught himself to draw and paint by imitating their methods. At the age of 21, after a two year stint at junior college, R. C. opened a successful sign company.

A decade-and-a half later, a failed marriage, dissatisfaction with the business world, a biography of Van Gogh and a trip to the National Gallery all had a part in convincing Chris to pursue a more fulfilling life. Thus began his career as a fine artist.

Within a short time he was attracting the attention of collectors. Among them were a publisher of fine art prints. The release of those first limitededition prints provided a steady source of income and insured him wider exposure to the public at large. During the last twenty or so years, he has become one of the most beloved artists in the region.

During much of this period R. C. painted the rural world - farmhouses, wildlife and the Louisiana landscape. In 2004 he turned his attention to the city of New Orleans. While many have painted New Orleans, most have painted landmarks devoid of the bustle of daily life. Chris took a different approach. He didn’t focus on one building, but the entire street. And people populated his work - people going about their daily routines.

Even Mardi Gras by Chris is different. Instead of focussing on a float or a few revelers, he provides you with a panoramic view of the entire parade and the buildings that act as the backdrop. You are positioned in the middle of the teeming crowd, but unlike being at the parade, you can see everyone there.

Painting New Orleans reinvigorated R. C. This lead him to travel and expand his repertoire of subjects. His paintings of the Appalachian Mountains and the west have lead to recognition over a much wider area and introduced his work to a multitude of new collectors. He appears to be on the verge of national recognition.

Hessam Abrishami - A Dynamic Artist

Persian born artist, Hessam Abrishami, creates dynamic compositions using powerful expression and vibrant colors along with great imagination. Inspired and encouraged by a high school teacher, Hessam discovered his love of art and his talent for painting at the age of 15. Within a few years, he was receiving top honors in such competitions as the "New Artist Competition" in Iran.

Hessam attended school in Italy where he concentrated on his love of portraiture and studies of the anatomy, although he did study impressionism, surrealism, cubism and modern art. The education attained in Italy, along with the influence of his native Persia, has helped to shape the colorful, dramatic, exciting, bold artwork that can be no other than Hessam. The French press has called his paintings "a statement in the fluidity of human figures.....with tension between each figure, a kinship that provokes the viewer to seek reasons for such relationship."
