Inspired by the beautiful plants that grow in the soft climate of Southern England, Brenda Burke’s floral paintings uphold the classic traditions of the Old Masters, with the added zest of modern usage and the beauty of flowers which were not available to the great artists of previous centuries.

Burke’s work demonstrates her experience in classical techniques, with intriguing compositions full of tonal contrasts, light and shade, and the secret geometry that has mesmerized critics and collectors through the ages and, indeed, throughout her career. Whether working in oils on canvas, encaustic on board or tempera and oil on gesso panels, Burke’s paintings convey depth and richness combined with exquisite detail.}

Brenda Burke is also a highly regarded portrait painter, both in England and the United States. Many of her sitters are well-known faces, and all her clients have experienced the understanding of personality, attention to detail and ambience that Burke achieves in her “speaking likenesses”.

“We were moved to tears when we saw the painting Brenda has created of our family”, said Mrs Suzanne Levere (2004), “and truly it will be a family heirloom for generations to come...”
