George has a fascination for masks,be they Japanese,Chinese, or Italian.Their frozen expression,blank eyes,scornful smile-all give him a sense of the mysterious,powerful yet strange.In this particular work,hedeliberately painted the mask to be skinlike,

as if the concubine is peeling off her face; all this suggesting that, even in the olden days,concubines were no exception in wanting to be somebody else.
The piece was transformed from George's original idea of a pastel-type

color painting to a glazing of the background down to almost nighttime.

The mask was kept as the main focus,with the golden fan, and finally the

girl holding the mask,following in importance.

Teri Galleries is celebrating the 79th birthday of our long time friend
Pete Fountain. Pete has been a huge part of what makes New Orleans sounique and his music has touched so many throughout his long career.
Celebrate with us by purchasing one of the pieces that Pete's music
inspired. The embellished giclee' "Pete Fountain" by Louisiana artist
Matt Litchliter captures that indelible spirit that is Pete Fountain as he
plays during Mardi Gras and the during the procession of the Half Fast Walking Club.
The series of original paintings done by another Louisiana artist, Jim Tweedy,
have also been inspired by Pete Fountain. These pieces, both original and giclee's,
show Pete's love of life and music in these fun representations. These pieces

Exciting new Hessam Abrishami originals for summer 2009

Artist Bio: Hessam

Persian born artist, Hessam Abrishami, creates dynamic compositions using powerful expression and vibrant colors along with great imagination. Inspired and encouraged by a high school teacher, Hessam discovered his love of art and his talent for painting at the age of 15. Within a few years, he was receiving top honors in such competitions as the "New Artist Competition" in Iran.

Hessam attended school in Italy where he concentrated on his love of portraiture and studies of the anatomy, although he did study impressionism, surrealism, cubism and modern art. The education attained in Italy, along with the influence of his native Persia, has helped to shape the colorful, dramatic, exciting, bold artwork that can be no other than Hessam. The French press has called his paintings "a statement in the fluidity of human figures.....with tension between each figure, a kinship that provokes the viewer to seek reasons for such relationship."
